Couples Counselling ... creating a better relationship

Relationship/couple counselling can be an intimidating step for any couple, especially in the midst of conflict.  Which is probably why couples, on average, are having difficulty for six years before seeking help.   Couple counselling is also beneficial for those seeking to enhance their relationship.  Couple counselling is about learning new skills to improve your relationship.  Couples learn how to make changes in communication, getting better connected, increasing intimacy, and  learning how to repair after a disagreement during therapy (only to name a few skills).

Using The Gottman Method

The Gottman Method, developed by Dr. John and Dr. Julie Gottman, is a scientific and research based approach to helping couples improve their relationship.  Based on the framework of a Sound Relationship House, specific interventions are used to increase respect and fondness, manage conflict, increase connection, and create a better understanding. Dr. Gail has completed Level 3a Practicum Training in Gottman Couples Therapy with Dr. John and Dr. Julie Gottman and now a Certified Gottman Therapist.

Getting Started

After making an appointment,  the first step is an assessment to help determine the most appropriate interventions. The assessment is comprehensive and last approximately 2.5 hours (3 - 50 minute sessions). During this time, we explore your history as a couple, and you spend some time individually with Dr. Gail. After the session, each of you will receive an invitation to the Gottman Relationship Checkup, which is an online questionnaire that explores all aspects of your relationship. The cost of the assessment, including the questionnaire is $800.00.

Payment

The rates for couples counselling  is $220 per 50 minute session. Payment is made after each session and can be paid by either cash, debit, mastercard, or visa.  Extended health care packages may cover or partially cover the cost of counselling.
